Do you yearn for the days when your Mom would yell at you to “keep your elbows off the table” and “finish your peas or no dessert”? Do you love 50’s families and culture? Well, then look no farther than the 50’s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios…

Theme & Ambiance – 8.5 out of 10 points

50s-prime-time-cafe-gallery04I can’t say I’ve ever been a part of a family in the 50’s, but I’d like to think that they do a genuine job recreating the experience here. All of the tables are situated in a dining area with lots of pastel colors, a built-in TV showing old black and white TV shows, and lots of artifacts you’d expect from a retro kitchen area.

To make it even better, the wait staff really get into the whole experience as well. They’ll refer to you as “cousin Tom” or “cousin Jane” while you eat, and they’ll scold you if you put your elbows on the table, don’t finish your food, or don’t use please and thank you. They’ll even threaten to withhold dessert if you don’t behave. It’s all completely playful, but really fun and enjoyable. One of the many ways Disney immerses you in this fun restaurant.

Menu & Food – 8 out of 10 points

50s-prime-time-cafe-gallery06The menu itself isn’t huge, but it has some great comfort foods like meat loaf, fried chicken, chicken pot pie, brisket, etc. You can even get a sampler- which I get- that includes three of those delightful dishes. And even though they look kind of like “50’s TV dinner” when they arrive, it definitely tastes delicious.

Their fried chicken, in my opinion, is fantastic. I love it every time I come here, to the point where I am not sure why I get the sampler instead of just getting the entire plate of fried chicken. My two colleagues also really enjoyed their meals, so it’s not just me (and they’re tougher food critics than I am). To wash down the tasty food, they have a number of fun cocktails, too, most of which come with a glow cube which for some reason I really enjoyed (and took home with me which is fine). If you’re into fun fruity cocktails, the menu will make you smile.

50s-prime-time-cafe-gallery08-newIf you have any room whatsoever (we didn’t) then you’re in for another treat. They have some delicious dessert options to pick from, too, including shakes and sundays. yum! I wish we’d had room, but alas, we did not.
