60 Cool Facts about Disneyland to celebrate their 60th Anniversary posted a fun article with 60 great facts on Disneyland. Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Since opening day in 1955, the Disneyland Resort has welcomed more than 700 million guests to The Happiest Place on Earth. That number includes guests from approximately 200 nations, nearly every country in the world today.

5. More than 50 scuba divers work year-round to maintain Disneyland Resort attractions, including “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure Park and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland Park.

Personally, I find the history of all-things-Disney completely fascinating. I’ve been reading David Koenig’s book “Realityland” and learning lots of fun tidbits. Wishing Walt Disney a happy birthday today who was born today, Dec 5th, in 1901. His dreams and ideas live on across global theme parks, epic movies, and millions of obsessed worldwide fans (like myself, and probably like you, too). Walt, I hope you’re having a grand old time at some giant Disneyland in the sky.

Five cool things you may not know about the Disneyland Hotel

I know that everyone who loves Disneyland probably also loves the Disneyland Hotel even if staying there is only sort of a fantasy for “one day”. Whether you stay there or not, there’s still a lot of cool things to explore either way and I thought it would be fun to outline five cool things about the Disneyland Hotel that most people may not know about.

#1 – Was not originally owned by Disney

In fact, not only was the Disneyland Hotel not originally owned by Disney, but they didn’t purchase it until 1988! When it was constructed in 1955, it was owned by oil millionaire Jack Wrather and his wife, the actress Bonita Granville. Walt Disney actually asked Wrather to build the holel when he had exhausted his own credit building Disneyland. When Walt tried to buy the hotel back later, Wrather refused. The Walt Disney company finally acquired the hotel when it purchased the Wrather Corporation in 1988.
